Angela, the old St Werburgh's school is located on Chapel Street and is now a small events venue called The Old School and is also home to the East Midlands Bridge Academy. Spondon House School was on Church Street was a V.A.D. hospital during WW1 (1914-18) caring for wounded soldiers. The site of this is now the current modern St. Werburgh's School. And Sir Henry Fowler (1870-1938) died at his home, Spondon Hall (now demolished) on 14th October 1938 and is buried in Nottingham Road Cemetery, Chaddesden. The site of Spondon Hall is now a small residential development accessed from Lodge Lane along Gascoigne Drive. Hope this helps. The photograph of the class of children must have been taken later than 1900, because my mother is in it, 4th from the front on the first double row of girls. I have the original which belonged to my mother, and she was born in 1906. I remember her telling me that Alan Stevens was a classmate . He used to sell delicious ice creams and ice lollies in the village, in front of his shop. We lived at Gladstone House looking down Gladstone Road.
