Memories of 3 Nonagenarian Ladies of Spondon

This is a recording of the memories of 3 nonagenarian Ladies who were born and raised in Spondon and our grateful thanks to the participants, Mrs Jean Cudworth (nee Gilbert), Mrs Jean Harrison (nee Roberts) and Mrs Doris Innes (nee Shaw)

They reflect on  life in their early childhood, places they knew and played and a way of life long since gone.

There are twelve extracts from a total of 45 minutes of recording and separated into natural points in the conversation.

Section 1: Origins

In which the ladies discuss their origins in Spondon; recall ‘Shanty Town’ a complex of workmen’s huts used by the builders of Celanese; playing on the canal side; people and social events of the village.
