Anne Topham (1864-1927). Although born in Derby, from the age of seven she lived all her life on Church Hill, Spondon except for the seven years she spent in Germany between 1902 and 1909 when she was the English Governess to Princess Victoria Louise, daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Anne wrote of her experiences of living with the German Royal family and these were published in a book in 1914 entitled Memories of the Kaiser's Court which was an immediate success and was reprinted several times. She went on to write more books. He biography has been written and published by the Spondon Archive in 2022. Anne is buried in Spondon Cemetery on Stoney Lane.
