Howard Barrett - Photographer
Carte de visite (CdV) in the society's archive collection. An unidentified bride and groom photographed by Howard Barrett (1875-1937) who was a professional photographer who first practiced from a studio in Spondon between 1898 and 1902. He moved back to Southwell where got married in August 1902 where he worked from his studio there until his death in 1937 except for his WW1 service with the RFC/RAF in France. He was well known for his press photographs particularly sporting hunts and for producing a series of photo postcards of Southwell and the surrounding area. He was also a keen cyclist (and later also motorist) and took the photo of Spondon Cycling Club in 1899 on this website.
Can anybody identify the couple pictured ? The groom looks very similar to one of the cyclists in our 1899 photo also on the society website. And can anybody say where in Spondon Howard B operated from? A clue may be that a Mrs Gaskin and her daughter from Spondon were listed as guests at his wedding in Southwell Minster.
