Wedding at St Werburgh's Church c. 1981 with Spondon Guides in attendance. Bride has been identified as Sharon Dexter whose mum was a Guide Leader. The groom is believed to be John Andrews.

The Bride is Sharon Dexter…
The Bride is Sharon Dexter. Her Mum was a Guide Guider at the same time as my Mum. I'm stood carrying the Union Flag on the left of Sharon, the bride. I believe Fiona Withey is on the right. Her Mum was a Brownie Guide Leader. The photograph is c1982. I know because I left Guides (for Young Leader as Spondon had no Rangers), in around 1983, as I turned 17. My Mum is on the end of the photograph below. A wedding of Guide Leaders or ex Guide Leaders was a big event and we all took great pride in forming a Gaurd Of Honour. I was frequently chosen as Flag Bearer or Colour Party because of my height. I can contact Sharon for exact confirmation?

Thank you for your comments Vikki and especially for identifying the bride and others in the photograph, including yourself of course. I have searched the local papers for the marriage but couldn't find it. However in the BMD Register for Derby I found that a Sharon L. Dexter married a John W.A. Andrews in Qtr3/1981. Is this them? I have altered our photo caption accordingly but I can edit further if necessary. Regards. Paul Walpole, Archivist
