Church Street Stores

This advert for Weston's Quality Biscuits was revealed when the shop signs for Church Street Stores were removed. It may date from 1922 when the product was introduced to this country by Willard Garfield Weston, son of Toronto baker George Weston. W G Weston had been stationed here in 1914-18 war and noted the possibility of buying English biscuit-making machinery and producing "fancy" biscuits for sale here. The Company was very large in Canada, where his father had started as a baker, buying delivery rounds from his employer, and growing rapidly to be a major bread supplier.
